Criminal justice policy -- rights of the convicted.
(1) Laws for the punishment of crime shall be founded on the principles of
prevention, reformation, public safety, and restitution for victims.

| Offenders Required to Register: |
Adult sex offenders, juvenile sex offenders court-ordered or juveniles
convicted as an adult. Montana also registers violent (non-sexual) offenders,
which include offenders with convictions for offenses such as Homicide, Assault,
Domestic Abuse, Kidnapping, Robbery, and Arson. |

Fingerprints, photograph, certain ID numbers, type of offense, physical
description, date of birth, citizenship, phone number, vehicle description,
current address, offense/conviction information. |

State Department of Justice. |
| Timeframe for Registration: |
Within 10 days of conviction, release from prison or supervision, coming
into a county; 10 days of changing address. |

Life for sex offenders, 10 years for violent offenders. |

Quarterly for designated high-risk sex offenders and annually for
other sex offenders and violent offenders. |

Community notification is conducted by local law enforcement agencies. It is
discretionary for Level 2 offenders and mandatory for Level 3 offenders. The
names and addresses for all registrants are public information. |
