| Offenders Required to Register: |
Anyone on parole or probation or imprisoned for a sex offense on
January 21, 1996, to register with the Division of Criminal Justice Services. In
addition, sex offenders sentenced to probation, local jail, or state prison
after that date must register upon their return to the community. In 1999, eight
new offenses were added to the list of registerable offenses. Any person on
parole or probation or imprisoned for one of these offenses on January 1, 2000,
as well as any person who is convicted of one of the new offenses after that
date, must also register. |

Aliases, date of birth, sex, race, height, weight, eye color,
drivers license number, photograph, fingerprints, description of offense, date
of conviction, sentence imposed, internet accounts and internet screen names,
other pertinent information. |

| Penalties for Non-Compliance: |
Class A misdemeanor for the first offense; Class D felony for
second and subsequent offenses. Non-compliance may be basis for revocation of
parole and probation. |

The local law enforcement agency has discretion for notification
to any "entities with vulnerable populations" concerning offenders at risk
levels 2 and 3. The State provides public access, regardless of risk level,
through a 900 telephone line $.50 per call for up to 5 searches and monthly
publishes a subdirectory of Level 3 (high risk) offenders that is distributed to
local law enforcement agencies, available to the public in those local law
enforcement agency offices and is also available on the Division of Criminal
Justice Website. As of 4/98, the 900-phone line and the published subdirectory
both operate within constraints of the temporary restraining order. |
